Spring At Godmanchester

On Thursday I had a friend staying and we decided to make the most of the sunshine and head out with a picnic to Godmanchester Nature Reserve.

Spring was definitely in the air with sightings including flowers, my first butterfly of the year and a variety of birds – my favourite being the long tailed tits!  The highlight, though I failed to get a picture, was a grass snake swimming at the top end of Roman lake (close to the bridge across to the Peter Prince area).  The snake was probably around a metre long and looked beautiful swimming through the water!

A selection of photos are below, as ever, click to view bigger!

This first selection shows how wet some parts of the reserve was!  Water levels were fairly high but none of the paths were completely flooded.

Finally, some photos of the lakes and the nature around while we visited!
